As a working mom of 2 boys and a great husband, I believe that time outside transforms our lives for the better. Fresh air doesn’t cost a thing!
After church we sometimes go to the park and play touch football or a game of baseball. We bring the dogs and they play as outfielders. It is all good until they don’t return the ball and start chasing the runner. We all have a tremendous amount of exercise and we have a blast!
Being outside allows relationships, creativity and activity to unfold, which leads to a healthy lifestyle and which I believe can reverse the negative effects of past unhealthy choices. The first step is consciously choosing to spend time with your kids away from the distractions that exist for each of us inside the house and look right beyond our doorstep. Sit on the stoop, notice the clouds and share what you like about being outside.
I live in Washington State and we don’t get very many sunny days, so we say cease the day!
