We love to have family fun day at our house. Last week we went tubing down the Nooksack River. It was kind-of a spur of the moment decision and we had not been tubing in years. It was such a adventure. We started at 1:00 and didn’t get out of the water until 8:00. It was so beautiful. The sky was blue and the current was slow and easy. I was asking God to see an eagle all day, and at about 7:30 two beautiful eagles circled around our heads. It was magnificent.
Family fun day doesn’t need to cost a lot of money, it just needs to be fun. We have Operation Green Dog at our house. Which is code for walking around track at our local high school, talking, and playing soccer. It is a great way to stay fit and still be together.
“We’ve done many things on Family day, but no matter what it is, we always have a blast together. Our latest idea is to have a Family Day jar, and add $10 or $20 to it each week. Then, each Family Day, we can decide whether to spend it that weekend or let it save up for a bigger event.” ~Leo from ZenHabits
My husband likes to throw us all in the truck, take us on a adventure and get 50 cent ice cream cones at McDonalds. We also enjoy going down to the local park and playing on the jungle gym.
Anticipation is half the fun.
What do we want to do on Family Day? Each person comes up with a suggestion, and after that, we decide by a process of consensus (not majority rules). That means that we kind of poll everyone to see what they want, and narrow it down to one or two or three options. Sometimes we’ll decided to do three or four things on Family Day. But everyone has to agree to the decision — if someone doesn’t agree, then we have to find a compromise or an alternate solution that makes everyone happy. ~Leo from ZenHabits
When I was little my mom always called family days Lion Hunts, because you never knew what you were going to find. So I challenge you to spend the day with your family and enjoy the adventure.
